ABOUT
Virginia Kane is a poet from Alexandria, Virginia.
Her work has appeared in The Adroit Journal, Prairie Schooner, Them, Muzzle Magazine, The Baltimore Review, Poet Lore, and swamp pink and has received support from Sundress Academy of the Arts.
She was a runner-up for the 2026 Maureen Seaton Poetry Prize from the South Florida Poetry Journal.
Virginia has served as Editor-in-Chief of Sunset Press, read for the Kenyon Review, and interned at Copper Canyon Press, Poets House, and Split This Rock.
For three years, she worked as a bookseller and events assistant at Malaprop’s, an independent bookstore in Asheville, North Carolina.
She holds a BA in English and Women’s and Gender Studies from Kenyon College where she received the John Crowe Ransom Poetry Prize, James M. Propper Prize in Poetry, Robert Daniel Memorial Prize Scholarship Fund in English, and Molly R. Hatcher Prize in Women’s and Gender Studies.
She is currently an MFA candidate in Poetry at Vanderbilt University where she is the Russell G. Hamilton Scholar.
She likes to hike, take film photos, and lay in direct sunlight.
